Due to Navantia Australia’s ongoing success, we have exciting opportunities for Mechanical Engineers at all levels to join the team out of its Garden Island, Sydney office. Operating under the Design Support Contractor (DSC) contract, you will be responsible for delivering technical investigations, preliminary and detail designs, installation guides and test plans for naval ship upgrades. Systems responsibility includes:
• Ship Propulsion Plant
• Propulsion Transmission and Propulsor Systems
• Propulsion Support Systems – Fuel, Oil, Water
• Auxiliary Systems – Pumps, Piping Systems
• Heating & Air‐conditioning Systems
• Refrigeration System
• Sea Water Systems – fire main, Sprinkler and Washdown
• Fresh Water Systems
• Waste Water Systems
• Aviation Fuel Systems
• Compressed Air and Gas Systems
• Hydraulic Systems
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide high level of mechanical engineering technical competence based on relevant experience and knowledge.
- Complete mechanical systems design for naval ship systems, applying robust systems engineering process.
- Undertake technical investigations, root cause analysis and solution identification.
- Integrate platform mechanical systems on naval vessels.
- Deliver technical reports and technical documentation in accordance with established Navantia and customer standards.
- Work effectively within the broader Navantia Engineering Team to engage with different engineering disciplines in the development of new naval ship system designs.
- Plan and coordinate assigned engineering projects from concept through to delivery, including the development of project plans, schedule and engagement of internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide mentoring and support to junior engineers, as applicable.
- Participate in the design coordination meetings with the rest of the Engineering Team members.
- Participate in Design Review meetings with the Client.
- Liaison with Clients (internal & external) and subcontractors.
- Requirement’s analysis and verification development.
- Project Management, including management of task schedule, resourcing, budget and progress monitoring and reporting.
- Assist in planning and coordinating on‐board installation works, including scopes of work, installation work packages and test procedures.
As the ideal candidate, you will have:
- Bachelor’s degree ‐ Engineering (Mechanical)
- Proven skills and experience in a mechanical engineering function.
- Experience in a technical and industrial Defence environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pumps and piping systems.
- Proven ability to produce clear and well‐presented reports to a suitable quality and standard.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Project Management skills.
- Experience working with technical shipbuilding regulations (Classification Society and IMO requirements).
- Experience in the relevant CAD/3D software package (Micro‐station, AUTOCAD).
- Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment.
- Ability to manage, prioritise and complete multiple tasks concurrently.
- Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and Clients.
- Australian Citizenship.
