Lunar Outpost Oceania is partnering with prominent mining companies to explore automating monitoring, inspection, and maintenance tasks to improve the safety and productive operating time of its underground mining assets. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our fast-paced, dynamic team as part of the Accelerating Women in METS Internship Program for the 2024-2025 Summer.




Key Responsibilities:


Design and CAD Modelling:



  • Collaborate on 3D modelling using CAD software.

  • Ensure designs meet technical specifications.


Prototyping and Testing:



  • Assist in building prototypes and testing components.

  • Analyse test data and propose design improvements.


Documentation:



  • Maintain detailed records of design changes and test results.

  • Update engineering drawings and specifications.


Collaboration:



  • Coordinate with electrical engineers and software developers.

  • Integrate mechanical, electrical, and software systems.


Problem-Solving:



  • Identify and address design and manufacturing challenges.


Material Selection and Quality Control:



  • Select materials for lunar conditions.

  • Implement quality control measures for manufactured parts.


Team Collaboration and Safety:



  • Collaborate with team members.

  • Adhere to safety protocols during all phases.




Required Qualifications:



  • Minimum of 2 years' experience studying an engineering discipline at University.

  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers and software developers, to integrate mechanical systems with other components.

  • Confidence to participate in design reviews and provide feedback and recommendations to improve system performance.




Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in robotics or a related technical field.

  • Experience working in a startup environment.
