About the Role

Reporting to Manager Technical Services, the Mechanical Specialist will be instrumental in delivering innovative mechanical solutions while aligning with Melbourne Water’s commitment to environmental stewardship and operational excellence.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse and complex infrastructure that directly impact Melbourne’s water quality, environmental sustainability, and resilience. The ideal candidate is a problem solver with a passion for the water industry and a desire to drive continuous improvement across all aspects of Mechanical Engineering and Asset Management at Melbourne Water.

  • Developing, implementing and managing of Asset Class Handbooks, Standards and guideline in portfolio(s), in coordination with the Mechanical.
  • Maintaining the compliance and regulatory obligations of the portfolio(s), through industry and regulator liaison and influence, and compliance with reporting and management requirements.
  • Supporting project teams with design, specification, and selection of mechanical assets and systems i.e. pumps, valves, hydraulics etc. within a fixed plant environment
  • Contributing to asset management strategies by conducting condition assessments, performance analysis, and life cycle costing to enhance the reliability and longevity of mechanical assets.

About you:

  • Extensive engineering experience in water, wastewater, or similar infrastructure sector
  • Experience in the water industry, with a focus on maintenance and operation of fixed plant mechanical equipment
  • Highly developed technical leadership skills.
  • Highly developed mechanical aptitude with knowledge of asset management processes
  • Familiarity with mechanical system diagnostics, condition monitoring, and reliability-centered maintenance principles.
  • Advanced skills using Maximo and Moderate Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • You will hold a relevant Tertiary degree in Mechanical Engineering alongside a Professional Engineering Registration.
  • A Current full Victorian Driver’s License
