The Project
UGL and CPB Contractors have been awarded the early works contract to support Powerlink’s delivery of CopperString 2032. This $5 billion iconic project will initially be approximately 840 kilometres of new transmission line running from just south of Townsville to Mount Isa that will connect Queensland’s North West Minerals Province to the national electricity grid. The project scope includes:
• 500 kilovolt (kV) transmission line from just south of Townsville to Hughenden
• 330kV transmission line from Hughenden to Cloncurry
• 220kV transmission line from Cloncurry to Mount Isa, up to six new substation sites.
This exciting project will commence construction in 2024 and we are currently looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer - Plant to join the team on the Copperstring Project.
What will a day in this role look like:
· Establish maintenance strategies for all fixed and mobile assets. Continue to monitor maintenance performance and plant availability.
· Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues in a timely manner.
· Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant efficiency.
· Establish, implement, and champion CMMS system.
· Develop and implement maintenance schedules for all plant equipment.
· Manage plant engineering projects from conception to completion.
· Provide technical support and training to plant personnel.
· Ensure that all plant modifications are properly documented and approved.
· Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the list of Plant and Equipment i.e., winches, stringing, cranes, trucks, EWP’s etc.
· Maintain drawing register, asset manual and site asset register.
· Develop and maintain documentation for all plant equipment and processes.
· Analyse labour quantities for maintenance department, completing analysis and cost benefit for internal vs external labour.
· Develop engineering solutions for repetitive failures. Categorise all other events that adversely affect plant operations and provide solutions to the maintenance team to rectify.
· Implement and manage reporting process for asset reliability. Report through to maintenance manager areas of concerns with options to rectify.
· Monitor and analyse plant performance data to identify areas for improvement through CMMS.
· Complete failure analysis for key plant and equipment as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
· Develop and manage reporting function for site plant and assets. Including but not limited to availability, down time events, outstanding defects, and planning accuracy.

What are we looking for you to bring to the team:
· Bachelor’s degree or tertiary qualification in engineering, maintenance engineering, plant, and equipment management or equivalent.
· Minimum 3-5 years’ engineering experience.
· Chartered Engineering Status.
· Wide level of planning, development, and review of complex projects.
· Implementation of maintenance planning processes.
· Reliability engineering.
· Construction management and specific technical skills base relevant to the program of work and discipline area.
· Skill in use of document and record management, progress and project performance reporting compliance and procedures.
