Kestrel is one of the world’s largest producing underground coking, or metallurgical coal mines and produces around 7 million tonnes of metallurgical coal annually.  Our coal is shipped to key markets in Asia and Europe to be used in the steel making process.  The mine is located in the Bowen Basin, approximately 40km Northeast of Emerald in Central QLD.  Our team’s capability covers the entire mining process, from development to extraction and processing, environmental management and sustainable rehabilitation.  We have an approved life of mine until 2033 and reserves to 2046 with the potential to increase further.

About the opportunity:

We are currently seeking a permanent Mechanical Engineer based on our Kestrel Mine Site.  This role can either be DIDO or a residential role based in Emerald, working a Monday – Friday or 9-day fortnight roster.

In this role, you will support Kestrel by:

  • Investigating mechanical problems, developing and implementing effective solutions to produce quality results.
  • Working with external engineering contractors to assist in developing project scopes, budgets, design specifications/criteria and work method procedures to ensure safe and effective planning and execution of projects.
  • Planning and executing projects in accordance to budgeted costs in a timely manner.
  • Completing equipment failure investigation and mitigation using root cause analysis techniques.
  • Making significant contribution and striving for continual improvement as part of the Mechanical Engineering team.
  • Adhering to management and procedural plans.
  • Leading underground and surface services plans to meet infrastructure / mining needs.

 

About you:

  • Mechanical Engineering tertiary qualification or Mechanical Trade Certification.
  • Proven multi-discipline Project Management experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a similar role ideally with both underground coal and CHPP/Surface mining equipment, operation and maintenance.
  • Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively at all levels within the company and with external counterparts, suppliers and contractors.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office suit of programs, SAP and Auto Cad.
