About the Role.
This is a key technical role within the business, suited to a confident and capable Mechanical Designer who is ready to take ownership of designs from concept through to final delivery.
You will act as the internal design authority, working closely with the senior leadership, workshop teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and delivered to a high standard. The role will involve a mix of office-based design and modelling, Workshop collaboration and occasional site visits for measurement, assessment, and project scoping.
  
Key Responsibilities.
Develop mechanical designs, 3D CAD models, and detailed technical drawings for custom engineering projects.
Take full ownership of the design lifecycle, from initial brief and site assessment through to fabrication and final sign-off.
Design new assemblies, components, and modifications for industrial and heavy engineering/fabricated applications.
Produce accurate fabrication drawings suitable for internal workshop use and external manufacturing partners.
Update, revise, and improve existing designs and legacy drawings.
Conduct site visits to measure equipment, assess project requirements, and gather design inputs Work closely with fabrication teams, subcontractors, and third-party manufacturers to ensure designs are fit for purpose.
Liaise with the senior leadership team and clients to clarify requirements and ensure expectations are met
Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support throughout project delivery
Contribute to improving design processes, standards, and documentation.
  
About You.
Hands-on, detail-oriented Mechanical Designer who enjoys seeing designs come to life and takes pride in delivering practical, high-quality engineering outcomes.
Experience in mechanical design and drafting within industrial or heavy engineering environments.
Strong capability in 3D CAD modelling and technical drawing production.
A solid understanding of fabrication, manufacturing, and assembly processes.
Ability to work independently and take ownership of designs, while collaborating with a broader team.
Confidence communicating with tradespeople, engineers, project managers, and clients.
Strong attention to detail, organisation, and time management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  
Qualifications & Experience.
Degree or qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Design/Drafting (Mechanical/Industrial).
Minimum c5+ years’ experience
Experience in industrial equipment, machinery, fabrication, or similar environments.
Familiarity with modern 3D CAD software (e.g. Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar).
