Mechanical Design Engineer

The Onset
On-site
Sydney, Australia

Job Description

Are you bored?

Do you feel like you’ve fallen into a slow paced routine, lacking excitement and challenge in your work?

Sick and tired of maintaining and finding faults in someone else’s creation under strict regulations and a mountain of documentation?

Sounds like you need something fresh to work on.

You want complete ownership of the mechanical design. You want to experiment, create, rapid prototype and see your creation through to production.

Ideally something that has never been done before.

Something novel that has the potential to have a major impact on global warming and the way energy is delivered.

What’s the role?

They're a well-backed startup working on a solution to transfer energy via optical systems.

You'll spend time researching a way to bring their demo piece and overall vision to life.

That’s why you’ll come in to own the mechanical design for their high-precision targeting system.

If you like working on extremely complex opto-mechanical product development, you’ll enjoy the greenfield nature of this work.

You’ll create something that operates outdoors and in some cases, extreme harsh weather conditions.

Your contribution will help them hit critical milestones, ramp up for series A and grow the business. This means stepping into a leadership role, and growing your own team over time.

What do you need?

You come from a mechanical R&D background, and you design with DFM and DFA concepts in mind.

Ideally, you have pushed various designs through to prototype and mass production.

Experience selecting actuators and motors is something you can tick off your list.

We’re more interested in competence and attitude than years of experience so whether you’ve got 4 years or 10 years, we’d like to hear from you.
