About the Opportunity
Service Stream’s Utilities division are currently seeking a Leading Hand (Mechanical) to join our growing company. You will be responsible for leading and supervising a small team of mechanical fitters and associated trades in carrying out routine and reactive maintenance on water and sewer delivery and treatment infrastructure within the region of which they operate. Teams may be called upon to deliver  minor works projects as required.

Key Responsibilities
The Leading Hand (Mechanical) will be an experienced operative who safely and efficiently maintains wastewater and water control systems. The Leading Hand will be responsible for leading and supervising small teams on internal and external teams. Proficient in operating and maintaining network, treatment, and ancillary assets within water and sewer distribution systems. Committed to ensuring a reliable and secure water supply while minimising environmental impact and maintaining positive operational and community relations.

  • Demonstrate effective leadership, create a positive work environment and promote best practice in the workplace.
  • Champion change management and culture ambassador.
  • Support Supervisor to undertake Higher Duties when Supervisor is on leave.
  • From time to time, shadow Supervisor to gain insight and skillset advancement for personal growth and development.
  • Empower team members to make and own decisions and respectfully challenge

  • Participation in rostering which ensures efficient and continuous operation of critical infrastructure.
  • Provide cost effective and compliant advice and recommendations to Service Stream
  • Encourage and promote the Service Stream Walk, Talk, Lead, Care within the workplace by supporting relevant Service Stream procedures, programs and initiatives
  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance tasks to assets and processes including, but not limited to:
    • Coordination and Supervision of High Risk works and services.
    • Provide assistance to support works coordination (planning/scheduling).
    • Provide Quality Assurance to works and services undertaken by teams under supervision.
    • Ensure dedicated commitment to continuous HSE improvement.
    • Response to and rectification of equipment failure
    • Fault finding of the process
    • Basic maintenance tasks to remedy faults
    • Installation and augmentation of assets/plant/installations.
    • Maintenance and Fault finding of assets/plant/installations.
    • Carry out Programmed Maintenance & capital work
    • Commissioning & de-commissioning of assets/plant/installations.
    • Provide technical support to engineers and production personnel.
    • Scope equipment required and assisting with provision of quoting & estimates and subcontractor engagement to assist Supervisor and Works Coordinator functions.
  • The MECS teams will work collaboratively, supporting each other’s disciplines to enhance efficiency, share expertise, and ensure seamless integration of maintenance and repair activities.
  • Fostering collaborative engagement with external trade stakeholders to ensure efficient performance of services and minor works projects.
  • Foster positive relationship with apprentices to drive enhanced trade skills of apprentices.

About You

  • Current Drivers Licence. 
  • Truck Licence HC or MR 
  • National Licence to perform High Risk work 
  • Trade Certificate in a relevant mechanical discipline
  • Willingness to upskill and undertake additional training for ongoing development
  • Experience on wastewater treatment plants and all equipment located within the plant (Desirable)
  • Experience working on water filtration plants (Desirable)
  • Generator Maintenance servicing experience (Desirable)
