Description

As the Leading Hand Fitter you are responsible for leading and supervising a maintenance team conducting general maintenance work to achieve required results. In addition the Fitter Leading Hand will carry out general mechanical work in a workshop environment and/or breakdowns on heavy mobile and fixed plant and equipment.

Responsibilities
  • ensure the safe, efficient and quality completion of all tasks as assigned by the Workshop Supervisor and when that person is absent direct the crew independently;
  • manage and allocate duties of repairs, servicing and scheduled maintenance for fitters;
  • issue work orders to tradespersons;
  • provide supervision and guidance for tradespersons and apprentices;
  • ensure all work allocated for crew is carried out and that all work carried out is in accordance with the relevant Technical/Standard Work Procedures;;
  • ensure equipment is statutory compliant, all repairs are completed in a timely manner and all work is done to a high safety and quality standard;
  • assist tradespersons and apprentices with the mechanical work, hydraulic diagnosis and repair of faults when required;


Qualifications
  • relevant Heavy Vehicle Mobile Equipment / Diesel Fitter trade qualifications;
  • experience working in mining, shaft sinking, heavy industry or major construction projects;
  • valid manual drivers licence;
  • current First Aid & CPR qualification;
  • demonstrated strong fault finding skills;
  • auto electrical knowledge;
  • ability to read schematics;
  • demonstrated leadership ability;
  • high levels of initiative and the ability to work well under pressure;
  • strong planning and organisational skills to schedule and complete tasks;
