Your Opportunity

As a Heavy Vehicle Motor Mechanic in our Fleet Maintenance team, you will play a key role in bringing your mechanical expertise and proactive problem-solving to QFD. Based at our Yatala workshops, you’ll use your technical experience, diagnostics mastery, and workflow knowledge ability to ensure all equipment is fit for purpose. This position provides true operational stability with a schedule, ensuring you are reliably home with your family at the conclusion of each shift. It offers an excellent balance allowing you to maintain a dedicated local routine and achieve your career goals.

 

When operational needs arise, you’re ready to:

  • Undertake servicing and repairs of fire appliances and ancillary systems to ensure compliance with the NHVR and Transport Operations Act.
  • Service and maintain firefighting and pumping systems to manufacturer specifications to ensure they perform under pressure.
  • Utilise electronic diagnostic equipment and hand tools safely to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical faults.
  • Manage digital job sheets and data entry via the electronic Fleet Maintenance System to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Workshop Supervisor to communicate the condition of the fleet and ensure all maintenance goals are met.
  • Participate in manufacturer training to stay at the forefront of heavy vehicle technology and maintenance best practice.

What you'll bring

We want to hear from you if you possess a genuine fascination with diverse machinery and enjoy the challenge of working across a varied fleet, showing an equal enthusiasm for mastering emerging automotive technologies and maintaining complex legacy systems.

 

We are seeking a proactive collaborator who can:

  • Current Medium Rigid drivers' license (or ability to attain prior to appointment).
  • Trade certification qualification - Level 1 Motor Mechanic (Heavy Vehicle Stream), and/or skills and knowledge as a tradesperson in heavy motor mechanic environment.
  • Skills, knowledge and/or qualifications in similar light vehicle trades will be considered, and with the intent that the applicant would update their certifications if successful.

 

Special requirements

  • Provide an after-hours rostered on-call service for the provision of urgent maintenance/repairs for fire appliances/heavy vehicles and equipment.
