Position Title: Heavy Vehicle Mechanics 

Personnel Area: Transport for Brisbane 

Branch: Transport Operations – Maintenance  

Salary: AUD $1,439 to $1,540 per week plus penalty rates + 14% super + leave loading + Council benefits (Remuneration stated is for the full-time positions) 

Work type: Multiple Permanent Full-time positions. 

Location: Carina, Eagle Farm, Garden City, Sherwood, Toowong, Virginia, Willawong

It's an exciting time to join our experienced maintenance team of Heavy Vehicle Mechanics. Council has proudly operated Brisbane’s buses for more than 90 years and now has one of the largest bus fleets in Australia with more than 1,200 buses. Brisbane is growing, and so is our bus network! 

Your Role 

As a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in maintaining our fleet of buses, ensuring they are safe, reliable, and ready to serve the community. Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Performing ongoing mechanical maintenance and servicing of buses
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues on buses and other heavy vehicles
  • Installing and testing light to medium-sized components on heavy vehicles
  • Maintaining a high standard of safety, work organization, and cleanliness in your work areas
  • Providing trade guidance and supervision to apprentices, trade assistants, and contractors
  • Demonstrating and contributing to a strong safety culture in line with TfB’s “Zero Harm” principles.

To be eligible you will have: 

  • Trade Certificate Level III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Technology or equivalent
  • work rights in Australia (Australian citizen, permanent resident, or appropriate visa)
  • ability to operate autonomously, as well as within an inspiring team
  • sound organisation and time management skills
  • high diligence, safety awareness, positive team skills, and timely outcomes.

Experience working with buses is desirable but not required.
