CNC Machinist

Permanent Opportunity | Great Opportunity for an Experienced CNC Machinist

We’re looking for an experienced CNC Machinist to join a busy manufacturing environment working on heavy-duty components for the oil & gas industry.

This is a great opportunity for a skilled machinist who knows their way around a CNC lathe, takes pride in their work and enjoys finding better ways to get the job done.

About the Role

You’ll be machining large, heavy and long components, with a strong focus on quality, accuracy and process optimisation.

Your experience will include:

• CNC turning of heavy/thick-walled and long components
• Setting and operating CNC turning machinery
• Editing and adjusting programs to suit machining conditions
• Managing tool wear, heat and component deflection
• Optimising cycle times, tooling and machining processes
• Working from drawings, set-up sheets and machining standards
• Measuring finished components using micrometres, verniers/callipers, gauges and other precision equipment
• Checking tolerances, threads, hardness, straightness and other quality requirements
• Identifying and reporting non-conforming work
• Maintaining accurate production and quality records

Experience with oil & gas threads would be highly regarded, as would basic CAM knowledge and the ability to program directly from 2D drawings.

What We're Looking For

We're after someone who:

• Has 3+ years' CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment
• Has strong CNC turning experience
• Is comfortable machining large/heavy components
• Can read and interpret engineering drawings
• Understands feeds, speeds, tooling and cutting conditions
• Takes quality and safety seriously
• Is calm, focused and reliable
• Communicates well and works well as part of a team
• Is willing to ask for help, share knowledge and contribute ideas
• Takes pride in continuous improvement and developing their skills

Discipline, a good attitude and a willingness to get involved are just as important as technical ability.
