What You’ll Be Doing

You won’t be stuck doing the same repairs day in, day out. The Senior Bicycle Mechanic is a technical lead responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency within the workshop. Unlike traditional retail servicing, this role focuses on the end-to-end lifecycle of returned and warranty-claimed bicycles. You will balance hands-on technical repair with strategic decision-making, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating with the Warranty and Marketing teams to optimize product quality and resale value. Reporting to the Workshop and Technical Team Leader, you main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Technical Excellence & Diagnostics

  • Perform advanced mechanical and electrical (eBike) diagnostics on returned units to identify defects, shipping damage, or user error.
  • Execute precision repairs to restore bicycles to "as-new" or "certified resale" condition.
  • Evaluate the economic viability of repairs versus part-outs to maximize company ROI on returned stock.
  • Ensure all VIP builds, local pickups, and marketing bikes meet rigorous safety and performance standards.

Senior Leadership & Mentorship

  • Act as the "go-to" technical expert for the team; train and upskill junior mechanics in advanced repair techniques and diagnostic logic.
  • Assist the Team Leader in prioritising the daily workshop queue to ensure fast turnaround times for warranty claims and resale listings.
  • Develop and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to streamline workshop operations and data capture.

Warranty & Quality Control Support

  • Partner with the Warranty team to investigate recurring technical failures and provide detailed feedback for factory/manufacturing improvements.
  • Support technical decision-making by validating the necessity of major repairs or full unit replacements.
  • Specialist Sourcing: Identify and source non-OEM or specialist parts to fast-track resolutions for unique warranty cases.

Operational & Marketing Support

  • Lead the preparation of bikes for high-profile marketing shoots, ensuring bikes are aesthetically flawless and mechanically perfect.
  • Manage workshop tool maintenance and inventory levels for replacement parts, ensuring the team is never delayed by stock-outs.
  • Oversee the final preparation of resale bikes, including professional cleaning, photography-ready detailing, and accurate condition reporting for online listings.

What You'll Have

Qualifications & Education:

  • 5+ years professional experience in bicycle mechanics is required.
  • Recognised industry certification (e.g., Cytech, Shimano TEC, or equivalent) is required.
  • Proficiency in eBike systems (Bosch, Bafang, etc.) and hydraulic braking systems is required.

Technical Skills:

  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot complex mechanical and electronic issues.
  • Confident using inventory management software, documentation tools, and basic photography/listing platforms.
  • Proven ability to source alternative parts and solutions when standard options are unavailable.

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced workshop environment.
  • Ability to translate complex technical issues into clear feedback for the Warranty team or management.
  • A "perfectionist" mindset regarding bike aesthetics and safety.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform manual handling and use safe lifting techniques for heavy bicycles (including eBikes).
  • High level of manual dexterity and the ability to stand for extended periods.
