The Opportunity


Austal Ships is seeking an enthusiastic, hands-on individual to join our Fitout department as a Cabinet Making Apprentice. Be a part of Australia’s leading strategic shipbuilder for Defence and contribute to exciting marine projects.


As a Cabinet Making Apprentice, you will engage in the cutting and construction of cabinets, as well as the installation of walls, ceilings, and flooring on our vessels. This role is perfect for those eager to learn and grow in a dynamic environment.


 


What’s involved



  • Interpret and follow plans to meet Austal’s high standards.

  • Accurately cut materials as per assigned tasks.

  • Assemble structures using drilling and screwing techniques.

  • Verify drawings and completed work before seeking supervisor approval.

  • Adhere to Austal’s Safety procedures and ensure compliance in the workspace.

  • Demonstrate attention to detail by self-checking work and making necessary corrections.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area proactively, without needing reminders.


 


You’ll need



  • White card

  • Strong Attention to Detail.

  • Willingness to Learn: Open to receiving guidance and training from experienced tradespeople and supervisors.

  • A passion for cabinetry and ship building with some knowledge of tools and techniques related to woodworking.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and think critically about design and construction challenges.

  • Team Player: Capability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Good Communication Skills: Ability to understand instructions and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.

  • Physical Fitness: Capacity to handle the physical demands of the job, including lifting and standing for long periods.

  • Commitment to Safety: Understanding and adherence to safety protocols and regulations in a workshop environment.
