What we are looking for:


Start your hands-on career or take the next step as an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter with our team! If you're energetic, practical, and eager to learn, this is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience while working towards a Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical Trade).


As an apprentice, you'll develop key mechanical skills in maintaining and constructing Council's critical assets, such as Water & Wastewater Treatment Plants, pump stations, and infrastructure. You'll receive guidance from experienced professionals, helping you become a fully qualified tradesperson.


If you have a strong interest in mechanical systems, can follow instructions, and bring a positive, safety-first attitude, this role is for you!


Please Note: This is not an automotive or heavy vehicle mechanic apprenticeship.


This apprenticeship has been made available with the assistance of funding under the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work – First Start Program. The First Start Program primarily targets young Queensland school leavers and disadvantaged job seekers considered at risk of enduring prolonged periods of unemployment and accordingly, certain information is required from applicants to confirm eligibility for participation.

Who can apply?



  • young people (aged 15–24 years), including those in and transitioned from out-of-home care

  • long-term unemployed job seekers

  • mature-age job seekers (aged 45 years or older)

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

  • migrants and refugees from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds

  • people with disability

  • displaced workers

  • women re-entering the workforce

  • veterans, ex-ADF personnel and their families

  • candidates who have not previously utilised the funding from this scheme


First Start Funding Guidelines


What you should have to apply:



  • Completion of year 10 (or equivalent) with passing grades

  • White Card or the ability to obtain prior to commencement

  • Current Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Tetanus immunisations or the ability to readily acquire

  • Focus on Safety

  • Enthusiasm

  • Passion for learning and mechanical and fabricating works

  • Be willing and able to follow instructions, including complying with written procedures

  • Basic computer literacy skills

  • Ability to undertake manual work and work in unpleasant conditions
