About The Role

We are looking for aspiring Rail Apprentices for our Signaling & Communications discipline who will have the opportunity to kick-start their career with Australia’s leading rail contractor. You will learn from a team of expert tradespersons who are committed to delivering exceptional projects.




At John Holland we see our Apprentices as our future rail leaders, and you’ll complete the first stage of a structured learning and development program that’s designed to enable you to gain the skills and qualifications needed for a big future in our industry.  

As an apprentice you’ll gain practical on the job experience while receiving extensive training and a Certificate III in the relevant discipline. Our Apprenticeships are typically for three to four years and will commence mid-January 2025.


 


Over the term of the apprenticeship, the skills and experience you will gain across the Signaling & Communications discipline include:


Signaling & Communications:



  • Electrical trade including wiring regulations.

  • Installation, testing, repair and problem-solving low voltage circuits.

  • Installation and testing requirements for Railway Signaling equipment.


 


Working Conditions


  • Based out of the John Holland Seven Hills workshop.

  • Workshop and site-based work throughout apprenticeship and career.

  • Must be flexible to work different shifts depending on the project’s requirements. These shifts might include overtime, weekend work and night shift work. 

  • John Holland will cover the cost of successfully completed TAFE units.

  • Must be able to provide own transport to travel to work sites.

  • Availability to work in regional areas is required.


About You


  • A genuine passion for the Rail industry fixing equipment and troubleshooting repairs.

  • An ability to undertake manual/physical work.

  • Ability to work at heights.

  • Ability to follow instruction and work effectively in a team.

  • Willing to learn about WHS procedures.

  • Willing to develop communication skills.

  • Strong work ethic.

  • An ability to meet deadlines and work calmly under pressure.

  • Motivated and reliable.

  • Positive attitude and a team player.


Selection Process

The selection process will include:



  • Psychometric, Literacy and Numeracy assessments

  • Reference checks

  • Pre-employment Medicals including Drug and Alcohol screening
