The Housing Industry Association (HIA) is the official body of Australia’s home building industry. As the only national industry association for Australian building professionals, we represent the interests of the housing industry at regional and national levels.

Overview:
The purpose of this role is to grow the HIA Apprentices business by actively recruiting new host trainers and apprentices, providing a quality field service program for apprentices and host trainers, and ensuring that the program is effective and is conducted in accordance with HIA policies, procedures and practices.
Day-to-day, the role will:
- Recruit new host trainers and apprentices in accordance with HIA Apprentices policies, procedures and practices.
- Maintain a rigid mentoring schedule using HIA systems for visits to host trainers and apprentices.
- Monitor on an ongoing basis host trainers ability / capacity to train apprentices to meet established training programs and standards.
- Conduct counselling interviews and when necessary ensure performance standards and procedures are met, and conduct workplace performance assessments as required.
- Arrange for workplace relocation and / or transfer of apprentices as when necessary.
- Provide advice to host trainers, apprentices regarding their rights and obligations, and their requirements as related to training agreements.
- Assist as necessary with the promotion of HIA Apprentices at "Career Markets/Expos" and other events.
- Promote the HIA Apprentices to potential host trainers to initiate application and participation in the scheme.
- Conduct WHS information sessions to educate host trainers and apprentices their rights and obligations.
The ideal applicant will have the following qualities:
- Ability to generate and secure new business. A proven sales record is desirable.
- High level of interpersonal skills and personal presentation.
- Strong communication skills (oral and written), including a professional telephone manner with ability to listen effectively.
- Well-developed sense of personal work organisation and a high degree of self-motivation, with capacity to prioritise daily tasks, plan and schedule work commitments.
- Dedicated and energetic work ethic, by virtue of personal conduct and quality of work, and a desire to grow within an organization
- Ability to develop effective work relationships to achieve desired results and objectives.
- Understanding and full commitment to WHS.
- Demonstrated positive aptitude for administrative duties, and computer skills, including database use.
- Confidence to make urgent on the spot decisions when necessary.
- Knowledge of the Apprenticeship system and industrial award wages and conditions applicable is desirable, but not essential.
- A trade qualification in the building industry, eg- Carpentry, Joinery, Bricklaying etc, and/or Training qualifications eg- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is desirable, but not essential.
- Due to the nature of this role, a current Working With Vulnerable People (children) check and current Police Check are required.
